About this property

Welcome to Pioneertown Motel

Located in the unique setting of Pioneertown, the Pioneertown Motel offers a historic experience rooted in its origins as a 1946 movie set built by Roy Rogers. The property embraces a western theme throughout its rooms, which feature rustic décor and creature comforts such as air conditioning and comfortable beds. Without modern distractions like TVs, the motel encourages guests to appreciate the slower pace of desert life and the expansive night skies.

Guests can expect practical amenities including free Wi-Fi, accessible facilities, free parking, and a pet-friendly policy. While the motel does not offer a pool, fitness center, or airport shuttle, it provides a kid-friendly environment and a welcoming atmosphere that many find suitable for a peaceful getaway. Some reviews note slow water pressure in showers and thin walls, reflecting the practical limitations of this distinctive desert property.

Situated just a short walk from local attractions like The Red Dog Saloon and Pappy and Harriet’s, the motel is well positioned for visitors interested in enjoying nearby live music venues and the Old Western saloon town ambiance. Several guests have highlighted the friendly service from staff and owners, as well as amenities like hammocks and outdoor seating perfect for stargazing under the “big sky.”

Overall, the Pioneertown Motel is best for those who value unique historical character and a laid-back, no-frills stay over luxury. It suits visitors focused on sightseeing, recreation, and exploring the local desert culture. The balance of charming rusticity and functional facilities makes it a good fit for travelers looking to immerse themselves in the area’s western heritage.

The last time i stayed here was 8 years ago and i’m happy to report that it is as idyllic as ever. There have been a couple of improvements that have not taken away from the overall ambiance. Wonderful rustic rooms with comfortable beds and great coffee. Beautiful views and nighttime star gazing, yet only a couple of minutes walk to The Red Dog saloon and Pappy and Harriet’s. Why did i leave it so long? Be aware that the water pressure in the shower is not to great, but i suspect that is to do with the location. Wonderful!

My friends and I stayed here for a weekend and we had such a beautiful time. There were hammocks outside of our room and Pappy's was just a walk away. You get to sleep amongst an Old Western saloon town and it's so cool. The owners were so kind - especially the lady. Amazing service. What could be better than this??

Definitely the best motel in the Pioneertown/Joshua Tree area. Spent several weeks here over the course of the past few years. Owned by the same group that own's Copper Room and Red Dog Saloon. Side note, it's not the Ritz, the staff are only semi-interested in your business as are the owners so it seems. That said, you're in the middle of the desert so keep your expectations relative. they're friendly enough, win by default, and for their market, they're great.

What an incredibly unique and cool venue. A must if you are watching a show at Pappy + Harriet’s. Or if you want to feel like you are back in the Wild West!

This place was just what we were looking for. A quiet, no frills getaway with the basics done well. Rooms had great design and character with creature comforts like wool blankets and a guitar on the wall for cowboy chords. Nice mattresses and pillows and a couple chairs we could take outside to stargaze. No TVs, and that was perfect for us. There are a couple bars with live music in the area but they weren't too noisy and wrapped before too late. Wish we could have bowled at the alley on Mane Street but they were only open Friday and Saturday nights. Next time!

First time staying at the Motel instead of camping! Bed was comfortable, room was clean and spacious. Can’t beat being able to walk back safely from a show. Looking forward to staying again!

Great western movies set motel. Tom and Sheri were wonderful hosts. Great location. Slow pace. Big sky and stargazing. Great canteen with coffee, Danish and variety of teas and fruits. Plenty of books to read. Hammocks, diners and cute shops within walking distance. Only thing is walls are too thin
